Friend of the blog deus ex parabola was much too sleepy to join us this session, he was snoring and snoozing the whole time through it.
We begin with Bart and Rob practicing office small-talk by the water cool - Bart has never had a real job, and so relished the opportunity to hone his skills. Rob informs them that the Borderland is "like if reality had a dark web". They debate recapturing the drug-addled homeless man Moroz who they had been tormenting, but instead decide to stop by the home of Adidas Jones, the Rodnovprom employee whose address lay along the spiral-pattern of unusual deaths in Pinemarten.
It doesn't take them very long to get to the apartment building where Adidas lives, because as we established in our previous campaign small towns are small, and even a city-slicker like me can figure that out.
They go to Adidas's apartment, and hear her panicking about something killing her cat on the other side of the door. Aiming to take out the intruder, Auggy lets loose with his submachine gun through the door, kneeling down and aiming at an upwards angle. Unfortunately this hits Adidas several times and she perishes, falling from the couch she was standing on.
In her apartment they find the naked corpse of an old man lying in a damp spot on the ground, and atop a bookshelf the remains of what seemed to once have been a small furry creature, now rent in a spiral like it had been caught in an industrial lathe.
Adidas had been on a call with her sister Nike. The party has a baffling conversation with Nike conducted through the apartment's Alexa unit, wherein they try to get information about Adidas while convincing Nike not to call the cops. They claim to be Good Samaritans who heard Adidas panicking and broke in, with Bart being an Uber Eats driver and Auggy being a clumsy student who tripped while carrying a stack of books (what they claim made the sound of his submachine gun fire).
While trying to move Adidas's body, the corpse of the old man disappears. There are various shrieks and screams throughout the building which are swiftly silenced.
They inject Adida's body with a syringe full of the Hypha, and Auggy attempts to get her blood pumping in a medically-incoherent way that he likely would not have tried if they had Manhoman's medical genius to consult.
Chasing the sound of terrified people, they come to the apartment of a middle-aged gay couple, on whose floor is the corpse of a fat woman - who they note is in a similar bloodless condition as the corpse of the old man in Adidas's apartment, and as the corpse of the Native man in the cottage on the outskirts of Pinemarten.
Investigating an apartment between Adidas's and the couple's, Rob finds the body of a bachelor-man, headless & brain-unspooled, in his gaming chair.
Then, testing a hypothesis about the corpse, the party (which had been carrying around the corpse of the woman) dumps it back into the couple's apartment and shuts the door. One of the men, Peter, goes to the washroom to take a dump. After he leaves his husband Ricky alone with the corpse, Ricky dies in the same condition of the bachelor-man and so many others - brain unspooled, etc. & ex chetera. Before they can open the door to check on him, the corpse disappears once more.
In the parking lot, the party encounters a drunk and recklessly-driving Debbie, responding to the high volume of emergency calls she's received from the apartment building. The party mocks her for being a drunk, and calls out a warning to the residents of the building to hide their booze before Debbie can get her hands on it.
Bart gets the care package which was to be delivered to them from the Knights - mostly ammunition and xanax. Then they split up to find Moroz.
At the Lucky Mouse diner, Rob has a conversation with Alice about the disappearances in town. It's Alice's assumption that the disappearances, and the shoot-out at the Rodnovprom mine, were the fault of Norsefire personnel snapping and going rogue. She warns him not to go out alone.
At the library the party finds Moroz searching the internet for how to survive benzo withdrawal. He panics upon noticing them, but Rob manages to talk him down based on their shared experience in the Borderland. They convince the librarian to let them use a study room, and inject each other with the Hypha, planning to enter the Borderland together this time. This is where the session ends.
