D20 This Cult Follows...
1 The prophetic proclamations of a severed, brass-plated head carried around on a platter.
2 The teachings of a guru who disappeared on a journey to discover a path to the moon.
3 Krz-thuldit-sram, the maggot-ridden lord of 12 degrees in the sixth circle of hell, commander of 43 legions of demons.
4 Hedhayosi, archon of the upper spheres, grand architect of things that don’t matter.
5 The Book of Blue Meanings, a magical tome which fills outs its own seemingly endless pages over time, and always returns if destroyed.
6 An incoherent, syncretic mash-up of several religions.
7 An endless martyr, who is always dying but never fully dies. The cult drinks deeply of their blood.
8 Signals received through antennae rammed into trepannation-holes in their skulls.
9 Their own ideal selves, revealed by a magic mirror in the heart of the cult’s sanctum.
10 Giant fleas that inject revelatory chemicals as they drain blood.
11 A clockwork statue which tocks with great wisdom.
12 An entirely mundane conman.
13 A swarm of cicadas, each of which buzzes a single word. When they sing together, their words form an epic poem.
14 An oracle bloated with chthonic fumes, who releases visions-granting flatulence.
15 An individual of a species of crustacean which has evolved to mimic charismatic human leaders to acquire food and brood-hosts for itself. Non-sapient.
16 The half-divine child of the god of trash heaps, aiming above their station.
17 A leering obsidian idol which cannot be touched without it cutting you. Once you lay eyes on it you will forever after hear it’s whispers in your dreams.
18 A toad with seven horns. Croaks ominously. Might be an ordinary animal with a birth defect, might be an envoy of the nether realms.
19 A cave covered in ancient paintings which pantomime their desires.
20 Subliminal tectonic messages of a deep wyrm.
D20 This Cult Promises Its Faithful...
1 Wealth beyond their wildest dreams.
2 Ecstatic experiences impossible to find anywhere else.
3 Knowledge of the real nature of the world.
4 Secrets to magical power.
5 Love, true love.
6 The means to destroy their enemies.
7 Attainment of life everlasting.
8 Contentment, gentle lasting happiness.
9 A community which will accept them no matter what.
10 Nothing. It terrorizes them into service.
11 Antinomian freedom from right and wrong.
12 The salving of earthly suffering.
13 Connections with the elite and influential.
14 Big ol’ orgies.
15 Bargains on consumer goods.
16 Protection from their fears.
17 The health of their families.
18 That they’ll be spared the reckoning which is to come.
19 Wide tracts of land.
20 Immunity from the law.
D20 This Cult Prohibits...
1 Facial expressions.
2 Music of unseemly tempos.
3 Letting others see you sleep.
4 The dyeing of clothes, the mixing of pigments, and the application of cosmetics.
5 The killing of any flying thing.
6 Washing of the feet.
7 Limericks and other such tomfoolery.
8 Taking monetary payment from other cult members.
9 Wielding blades.
10 Entering temples which do not belong to the cult.
11 The drinking of rainwater.
12 Owning gold.
13 Eating anything that came from the body of an animal besides its meat.
14 Using the forbidden 27th letter.
15 Revealing one’s hands to those outside the cult.
16 Sleeping without facing the cult’s sanctum.
17 Wearing hats.
18 The creation of graven images.
19 Growing sweet fruits.
20 Looking in the eyes of one’s superiors in the cult.
D20 This Cult’s Reputation...
1 Is far worse than anything they’ve done thus far warrants.
2 Is nonexistent. They take pains to keep a low profile.
3 Paints them as fools and clowns.
4 Confuses them with another cult.
5 Is as respected philanthropists.
6 Is lurid and licentious.
7 Is unusually charitable.
8 Is tied up in ethnic stereotypes.
9 Links it to more conventional criminal organizations.
10 Implicates royalty as being among its membership.
11 Puts it on par with more respectable religious groups.
12 Attributes them with responsibility for just about every significant event in history.
13 Comes from a widely distributed series of pamphlets detailing the cult’s rituals in comedic etchings.
14 Ascribes to it different beliefs than it really holds.
15 Is as bohemians and libertines.
16 Is that they court controversy and attention.
17 Is that they enchant the minds of their followers.
18 Is as joyless ascetics.
19 Comes from the testimony of a former member.
20 Puts them at odds with vagrants and other easily-disappeared types.
D20 This Cult Plans...
1 To tunnel beneath cities and hold them hostage with explosive foundations.
2 To complete an eighth day of creation and amend the work of the gods.
3 To collect blackmail material on a nation’s leaders.
4 To seize key ley line nexus points and channel their energies to level all fortresses and armies.
5 Nothing yet, though they keep claiming they’ll set something up eventually.
6 To break down the membrane between this reality and others.
7 The downfall of all other faiths.
8 To liberate their late leaders from the underworld.
9 To build a temple unrivalled in glory.
10 To amalgamate their souls into an ectoplasmic leviathan.
11 To usurp all governments and replace them with a global republic wherein only cult members will be able to hold office.
12 To make jade the standard of all currencies.
13 To undo the shackles of linear time and make all possibilities coexist simultaneously.
14 To immanentize several eschatons simultaneously so that they cancel each other out and let the world exist a while longer.
15 To replace all non-believers with changelings.
16 To jettison their sanctum into space as a comet.
17 To craft a perfect being to exemplify their philosophy.
18 To map the movements of invisible stars and thus steal their wisdom.
19 To encode their teachings in the very fabric of space.
20 To raise a paradisiacal island from the ocean.
